These bar codes are a fantastic example of an emerging media tool! I recently learned about a 2D barcode that does not require a special app on your phone - therefore, anyone with a cell phone can use them. You can read more about this technology here http://www.mobilemarketingwatch.com/jagtag-debuts-new-2d-barcode-technology-that-requires-no-special-software-4874/

You mentioned several companies which are utilizing these bar codes in a strategic way - I was recently in Vail and on all of their lifts are an Ad for Sprint which includes a barcode for you to scan and it will track your progress across the mountain for the day. They definitely gave me a benefit for scanning the code as it was information I would have liked to have had - however, and a note to Sprint, given it was freezing outside, I didn't want to mess with my phone long enough and on the lift no less to download the app I needed for the barcode and then take a picture. If it had been a Jagtag; however, and I didn't need an app, and all I would've had to do is take out my phone long enough to take a picture, I definitely would've done it!

I was so excited when my manditory blog time was over. After I was finished with the class I let it go for about a year. I started it back up about a month ago. I have really been enjoying myself writing it without being told to.

Congrats on your last one!

Now, I consider myself pretty technologically savvy, but I'll admit it took me a LONG time to figure out what these codes were, and even though I have, I still can't get them to work. I have an iPhone, and three different bar code scanning apps and none of them ever pick up on these codes. The thing that sometimes bothers me, is that if I ask a retailer what the code is, most of them don't know! I encountered this very situation again this weekend at an Old Navy store while shopping with my younger sister. The code was at the register and it says special savings! We asked the cashier what the code said and she shrugged and said 'I dunno what that is'. It didn't make me too confident! Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best barcode scanner to use for these QR codes?

It took me 15 minutes to angle my computer the right way in order to scan the QR code on the Josh Groban video clip. I've started to look for QR codes and I'm seeing them pop up in more and more places. The video was a first though, I'm used to finding them in magazines and on coupons. I agree that this is a great way to build buzz about a product or event. I'm looking forward to finding more of them!

I knew this happened but I did not know it was such a ridiculous amount of money! Two Tweets would make my yearly salary. It really is a same the amount of money companies throw at celebarties just to get them to do a free thing. I know it is product endorsement, but for the most part we all know that it is fake. Very few people actually use the products they endorse and I feel it is loosing its legitimacy. But companies still throw millions of dollars at the technique, so maybe it does work but I would definately be interested to know a return on investment figure.

Very interesting you selected this to blog about this week, as I too noticed all the product placement in Britney's new video. Sometimes product placement doesn't bother me, because sometimes I feel like it makes the movie more realistic, but at the same time I can't help but wonder 'How much did they pay to have that brand show up!?' which takes away fromsome of the movie magic as well. Placement in music videos isn't anything too new, rap videos have had escalades and cadillacs in them for a long time, I just think it was when they started appearing in pop videos that many people took notice. I'm not sure yet whether it bothers me or not, but I do have to admit it's a great way to brands to get their products seen!

I have been job searching as well. It is amazing how fast the time flies while you are online looking. I was thinking how many job descriptions and resume uploads can or have I done in a 15 minutes or an hour. It’s amazing how job searching has changed when my husband I moved to FL six years ago I was faxing my resume, now most companies don't even include fax numbers maybe an email address and contact name. I believe the biggest challenge is standing out among a sea of resumes that are faceless and hoping you online submission or email doesn't end up in a spam folder.

Great post and great recommendation, I have been looking for a really good soup to nuts book on Social Media, so I will definitely check this one out.

Another Emerging Media thought for the day - on my to-do list today is "book flight to NYC". At the bottom of your blog post there is a Travelocity Ad that says "Find Cheap Fares from Charleston to NYC" Clearly, this came up because I've been searching for flights over the last week or so, but hilarious that it popped up today of all days, the day that this task is on my "must get done TODAY" list!
